Electric Guest

Asa Taccone needed to come back to himself. After years of grinding towards a dream, the Electric Guest frontman and his musical partner, Matthew Compton, finally achieved breakout success with their 2012 debut, 'Mondo.' Recorded with longtime friend and mentor Danger Mouse, the album was an unqualified success, but for all the benefits that came from working with an established producer, Taccone wanted to know who he was independently. Rather than lose himself in some idea of success, he wanted to define himself on his own, so he quietly recorded a left- turn of a follow-up album alone in his bedroom. It was a somber reflection of a particularly difficult stretch of life. He pored over every detail, stressed over every sound and syllable, and then, when it was finished, he threw it away. "It kind of broke me down mentally," reflects Taccone, "Nobody liked it, not the few people who's opinions I trust, not the label-& after sitting with it-i realized it was garbage too," " but the great thing about it was that it inspired me to get me back to what music used to be for me: intuitive, and not over-intellectualized. Once I scrapped that record, a completely different album emerged really quickly and naturally & I love it so much more."

AEG Presents: Jake Miller

Debuting with a pop-rap style influenced as much by John Mayer as Macklemore, singer/rapper Jake Miller first emerged while still a student at the University of Miami. Miller got his start in high school, posting videos online from his Weston, Florida home. In 2011, he self-released his debut EP, Summer Session, and performed his first live gig, opening for Snoop Dogg. His second EP, Spotlight, arrived in 2012. After signing a deal with the E1 Music label, he released the Road Less Traveled EP in 2013. That same year, he also unveiled his debut LP, Us Against Them, which incorporated smooth pop hooks, acoustic heart, and Miller's introspective rapping. Continuing his EP-per-year schedule, Miller unveiled Dazed and Confused in 2014. It featured appearances from Nikki Flores and Travie McCoy. The feel-good party EP Rumors arrived in 2015. With each release, the Jake Miller sound slowly drifted toward a more R&B-pop-oriented style similar to Nick Jonas or ZAYN. It became fully apparent on his 2016 EP, Overnight, which included the single "Overnight." That same year, he embarked on a tour opening for Fifth Harmony. ~ David Jeffries & Neil Z. Yeung

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Ted Leo is one of the finest songwriters of our generation, even if it’s not entirely clear what generation that is. Starting in New York Hardcore with Citizen’s Arrest, making the ‘90s safe for power-pop and Weller-esque hair with Chisel, then singing our turbulent lives like we were smarter than we were with The Pharmacists, and most recently providing equal parts sweetness and solace with Aimee Mann as The Both, Ted never let us down. And now, seven years after The Brutalist Bricks, he has a new solo album. And it’s wonderful.

Asgeir

How do you follow up the fastest selling debut album in Icelandic history, a record that out-performed even national treasures Björk and Sigur Rós’ first releases? At first 24-year-old sensation Ásgeir, returning at last in 2017 with daringly electronic new album Afterglow, pretended to those around him that the heat wasn’t on, that the stakes weren’t high. “I used to tell most people that I didn’t feel any pressure,” he laughs now. “But I was lying. I didn’t want to go into that discussion.”

Stiff Little Fingers - 40th Anniversary Tour

Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.

AEG Presents: MadeinTYO w/ K Swisha

Madeintyo does not have your typical rapper backstory - the son of a Naval Officer, he moved around frequently until his family landed in Tokyo for his high school years. Influenced by the foreign culture around him and inspired by his brother 24hrs (a successful artist in his own right) Madeintyo began to take music seriously. He uploaded a song to his brother's SoundCloud page and a movement was born – named The Private Club. His bass-heavy production influenced a new genre of rap music with a playful approach to lyrics. He was the first artist in his lane to break at radio, opening the doors for many new artists. WSG: K Swisha
