AEG Presents: FOXYGEN w/ Cut Worms

Foxygen and Star Power is the Los Angeles songwriting duo of 24-year-olds Sam France and Jonathan Rado. In May 2011, France and Rado nervously handed off a CD-R of this homemade mini-opus Take the Kids Off Broadway (Jagjaguwar, 2012) to producer and visionary Richard Swift after his performance in a Lower East Side club. The duo, who had just mixed and burned the disc that very night, had been devotees of Swift’s outsider-pop oeuvre since high school, when they first began recording their own pubescent forays into oddball rock n’ roll (At least a dozen records were finished before they graduated high school). Black Iris Presents: Negative Approach + Bloodclot w/ Tribes Collide

Negative Approach was born in Detroit, MI. in 1981 with John Brannon on vocals, OP Moore on drums, and Rob & Graham McCulloch playing guitar and bass, respectively. They released one ten song 7" and a full length (both on Touch and Go) before disbanding in 1985. John Brannon went on to form Laughing Hyenas. Negative Approach's minimalist (read: 30 second songs) and aggressive brand of punk inspired countless hardcore bands around the globe. Their classic LP, Tied Down, is still in print and considered paramount by most any hardcore abecedarian.

Bloodclot
John Joseph (Cro-Mags) - Vocals
Todd Youth (ex-Murphy's Law, ex-Danzig) - Guitars
Nick Oliveri (ex-Queens of the Stone Age) - Bass
Joey Castillo (ex-Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Danzig) - Drums

Maltesers Presents: Betty Who w/ Geographer & Rival Summers

With an eye-catching signature blonde pixie cut, delightful nineties superstar fixation, and singing and songwriting prowess befitting of her stadium ambition, Betty Who commands the dance floor.

“I’ve spent the past two years on the road, and I walked away with this intense feeling of wanting to make dance music,” she exclaims. “All of that touring and living developed my sense of self. It’s a really fast learning curve out there. You have to learn how to get better immediately. Because of that, I’m in a place where I feel more aware of who I am and able to be vulnerable in a sincere and blunt way. My band and I have the best time ever. It’s about creating songs that feel huge in front of a crowd of 20 or 20,000. I know that I want to get people moving.” WSG: Geographer | Rival Summers

Electric Guest

Asa Taccone needed to come back to himself. After years of grinding towards a dream, the Electric Guest frontman and his musical partner, Matthew Compton, finally achieved breakout success with their 2012 debut, 'Mondo.' Recorded with longtime friend and mentor Danger Mouse, the album was an unqualified success, but for all the benefits that came from working with an established producer, Taccone wanted to know who he was independently. Rather than lose himself in some idea of success, he wanted to define himself on his own, so he quietly recorded a left- turn of a follow-up album alone in his bedroom. It was a somber reflection of a particularly difficult stretch of life. He pored over every detail, stressed over every sound and syllable, and then, when it was finished, he threw it away. "It kind of broke me down mentally," reflects Taccone, "Nobody liked it, not the few people who's opinions I trust, not the label-& after sitting with it-i realized it was garbage too," " but the great thing about it was that it inspired me to get me back to what music used to be for me: intuitive, and not over-intellectualized. Once I scrapped that record, a completely different album emerged really quickly and naturally & I love it so much more."

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Ted Leo is one of the finest songwriters of our generation, even if it’s not entirely clear what generation that is. Starting in New York Hardcore with Citizen’s Arrest, making the ‘90s safe for power-pop and Weller-esque hair with Chisel, then singing our turbulent lives like we were smarter than we were with The Pharmacists, and most recently providing equal parts sweetness and solace with Aimee Mann as The Both, Ted never let us down. And now, seven years after The Brutalist Bricks, he has a new solo album. And it’s wonderful.

Asgeir

How do you follow up the fastest selling debut album in Icelandic history, a record that out-performed even national treasures Björk and Sigur Rós’ first releases? At first 24-year-old sensation Ásgeir, returning at last in 2017 with daringly electronic new album Afterglow, pretended to those around him that the heat wasn’t on, that the stakes weren’t high. “I used to tell most people that I didn’t feel any pressure,” he laughs now. “But I was lying. I didn’t want to go into that discussion.”

Stiff Little Fingers - 40th Anniversary Tour

Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night.

Good Show Presents: Deerhoof w/ Sad13 & Lily and Horn Horse

Though Deerhoof have often made albums from start to finish with virtually no input from the outside world, now is not the time for artists to operate in isolation. Mountain Moves throws the doors wide open. Working quickly, the band invited myriad guests to participate, some of them dear friends, others practically strangers. They are of different ages, different nationalities, different disciplines. The only common thread was that each and every artist on Mountain Moves doesn’t fit into a single, neatly-defined category – and doesn’t wish to. WSG: Sad13 | Lily and Horn Horse

The album is the much-anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album which received accolades from Pitchfork, NPR, Rolling Stone and more. Across its 10 tracks and 33 minutes the Toronto-based group dive back into the deep-end of reckless romance and altered dates. Ice cream truck jangle collides with prismatic noise pop while Molly Rankin's wit is refracted through crystalline surf counterpoint.
