IT CAME FROM THE GUTTER

The standard bowling pin, with it’s voluptuous, aesthetically pleasing shape (golden ratios abound), is also truly an iconic image of Americana embedded within our collective consciousness. Or to put it simply: bowling pins are just plain cool. 50 used bowling pins were given to 50 artists and given free reign to do whatever they deemed appropriate to transform the pin into an objet d’art. A wide range of artists were given pins including painters, woodworkers, assemblagists, metal workers, glass blowers, photographers, sculptors, as well as a  handful of non-artists who thought this was a pretty cool idea and wanted to have a crack at a pin (jury be damned!). Some of the artists that were given pins include Mark Arminski, Gwen Joy, Tim Pewe, Matthew Hockaday, Jerry Shirts, Heather Accurso, Brian Stuhl, Wyl Lewis (owner American Pop), Diane Whitehead, Ryan Matthews, Chris Bell, Marvin Shaouni, Oneita Porter (grrlDog design), Dale Teachout, Karl Kanai, April Segedi (323 East), Heather Hansma, Mike Kelly, Holly Hinkle, Rolando Garcia, Drew Kups, Anita Andersons and “Big” Joe McCuaig. The finished pins will be on display in the Garden Bowel and adjoining lounge for the duration of the show. All pins will be for sale with the proceeds going to a good cause: the artists themselves. The opening party on Sunday June 27th will take place from 5-10pm in the Garden Bowl. Featuring live music by Rocket Ray and the Amino Acids, DJ-MooJuice spinning your favorite Garage/Punk/Surf tunes, Caricatures by BobKat art, free appetizers, and of course: Bowling. Open to all ages, no cover charge.
